Achieving Success

Hi There members:

I was looking for some thought stimulating content to share with you this week and I came across forwarded to me by one of our members.

It comes from a postcard by the entrepreneurial coach Andy Bailey who is CEO of Petra Coach. While you may read it as business guidance, it applies equally to our lives outside of work and our relationships with family and friends. Good luck in all life's…

Needs, Innovation, Industries and Posterity

I was recently at a conference known as Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.  I would say that this has become the defacto standard for the show to see if you work in the telecom industry.

While it has evolved to become more than just a conference for mobile technologies, mobile phones and networks are the roots from which this show started. As I looked rode the shuttle to the conference one morning, I looked at all the attendees and I was amazed by the immensity of…

Phase 2

Now that the CD has been out for a while and we continue to stream out songs digitally via facebook and on our soundcloud channel, work has begun on the next project for 'stereotypes'. To be more accurate, we are feeling our way through the next project based on a few guidelines. We are also using 'penny earned' to get a better understanding of how difficult it is to market/distribute music...the leading song so far is "Cry Me a River" with around 1600 listens from around the…

The trouble with kids these days...

Greetings fellow Kamazooie friends!

I was having a discussion with a couple of friends about some recent news which made me want to reach out to the Kamazooie community for input.  The overall question is "What would you recommend for kids these days to have a bright employment future?".

I was also reviewing some older posts and happened to come across Zack’s posting on …

Happy Family Day - What is Love?

"And still, after all this time, the Sun has never said to the Earth "You owe me!", Look what happens with love like that, it lights up the sky."

Jalal ad-Din Rumi (1207-1273);  Persian poet.

The fact that Valentines Day and Family Day have fallen on the same weekend has inspired me to…

What an old riddle and Chris Martin taught me about "Reality"

I was discussing with a couple of colleagues recently about how we live in our own heads and how our perception of reality is actually very subjective and at times dead wrong. This discussion brought me to recall, somewhat painfully, how I learned about the subjectivity of what we believe to be real.

The first case wasn’t that painful; it was at a Coldplay concert with my daughter Kaitlin which was a great experience for several reasons but it did teach me that you…

Improving Your Golf Swing

In order to hit consistent shots you need to have good swing mechanics, a solid set-up and a consistent technique, but there are certain overlooked principles that if you follow will give you a great golf swing. When I say that these principles are "overlooked" I mean that you know that you're supposed to follow these principles, but you don't. So in this article I'm going to…

The Launch of Stereotypes "Penny Earned"

After 18 months of joyful toil, stereotypes released its debut CD "penny earned" just prior to Christmas. As I have documented the evolution of the project I wanted to pen one closing submission to capture some of the final impressions of the experience.

When I last left off, we were entering the final stage of recording and production. What I…

I wish you true happiness :D (pls watch the video)

Every now and then, I come across something that's really important; and I believe that this is one of those times and those things.

This week, I met up with an old friend.  He and I go back about 15 years but he told me that he recently got together with his 6 university friends. He showed me pictures of them 30 years ago and from their last meeting a few weeks ago. It was interesting to see how they changed physically but what he found interesting is how their lives had changed. As…

My Best Christmas Album Ever

Firstly, I want to wish everyone a Merry 2013 Christmas.  This Christmas posting comes a little late since most of Ontario was plagued with an ice storm on December 21 this year and thusly, our power, TV and Internet went down. Fortunately our power came back about 8 hours later but Internet service remains out at the time of this writing on Christmas Day.

Okay so getting to the point, which as you may have recognized takes some time for me, I wanted to reminisce a little this…

Musical influences

As an old school kind of guy, I  tend to forget that a virtually endless library of music is literally at our fingertips on youtube. When I was a young lad, music came in the form of AM radio (usually at night when the air inversion layer helped bounce signals from the northern US states) and listening to vinyl albums at friends houses...and subsequently saving up the cash required to buy the ones that caught your attention at Stedmans.

The other day I ran a search for an old Deep…

The Day I Met Paul McCartney

I suppose this saga begins, as it had with most kids, on the evening of February 9, 1964.  This was the first American performance of The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show.  I was only 12 years old, but certainly enthralled with this “new wave” of music coming to America. Watching on our black and white TV, through the normal transmission static, there they were…..these four young guys from Liverpool, England, with very different haircuts, clothing style, and most importantly, different…

The Power of Vision

This posting is about vision, and about intimacy and investing in family and DYI projects, but mostly, it’s about vision.

A little while ago, my brother and his wife were preparing to sell their family home after retiring and becoming empty nesters. He commented that while decluttering his home for the sale and impending move, the exercise was…

Train Ride through the Alps

In books, movies and speaking to other travelers, I heard and read about the mountains of the Alps and the beauty of the surrounding scenery, but seeing it with my own eyes, truly took my breath away.

There are two different train routes from Northern Italy to Austria and Germany and both of them go through the Alps. But since we were limited by time in our expedition and wanted to explore Salzburg (Austria), we took the shorter route from Venice.

To be able to take the train…
