I know there are at least a few Kamazooie members who are of native Canadian heritage. I'm sure you've heard a lot of buzz in the news lately regarding a hunger strike by Attawapiskat First Nation Chief Teresa Spence as well as a larger protest called "Idle No More".
I must admit that even though I am a status member of the Cree First Nation, I was largely unaware of what was fueling this protest and the underlying request for a meeting with the Canadian PM.
For those of you who are interested, here is a blog and a link to a more comprehensive document that describes the issues in detial.

The blog is written by Lorraine Land, of OKT, a Toronto based law firm that almost focuses exclusively on native law.
I am not writing here to lobby for your support, only to share information so that you can have a more informed view to what you might be hearing on the radio and seeing on TV.
I do wish them luck in the now scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Harper on January 11.

"If you listen closely around the kitchen tables and in the fur trapping cabins of Fort Chipewyan, Alberta, Canada, you will hear the murmurs about a “slow-motion cultural genocide”. The residents of the isolated indigenous reserves of northern Alberta are watching their land become unliveable as their communities are slowly poisoned by the world’s largest and most environmentally destructive oil extraction project — Canada’s Oil Sands."
This piece really defines why Canada (gov't) needs respect their own Duty to Consult rather than making wholesale changes to rights that affect treaty lands and native practices.
