Hello Kamazooie community!

I'm often asked, about my profession... and its interesting but, there is no simple answer to give.

Technically speaking i'm an Architect.. but I specialized in project management... I lived and worked in the arctic for several years managing infrastructure and housing development projects across the Nunavut Territory, somehow squeezed an MBA in the little free time i had, incubated, fostered and eventually sold my successful Corporate Construction Management company, and now... well... now I make movies.

And thats where the confusion is... "what do you mean you make movies" i'm asked constantly, and I try to explain that I finance and produce feature films as a speculative investment vehicle.  But the confusion is, "How did you go from Architecture to Film Making? they aren't even remotely related", and my response as always... It was entirely by accident.

Back when I headed up the Business Development department of my construction company, I tried to find creative new ways to strategically draw in our target market which consisted of Interior Designers, other Architects, property managers and the big corporate outfits directly.  So i looked to my hobby of photography and amateur cinematography for the solution.  The result: I started producing a web TV series called... Building Space.  Here's a quick episode for you reference:

Eventually an opportunity to invest in a small budget independent film presented itself, and that experience although very low budget introduced me to the strikingly similar commonalities between production management and project management, and so... kinda by accident, i bumped into the right people who supported my move to the film industry, and here I am today.

Strangely, the move from Architecture to Film came quite naturally to me.  The best part about my childhood was that my uncle would make it a point to take my sister and I to the movies pretty much every single tuesday.  It was the highlight of our week.  An escape from our routine and the complexities of parent vs adolescent struggles, and it wasn't until just now that I realized how much these moments of childhood joy really influenced my life.

For those of you who don't know, Charles Dimov happens to be that uncle, and I'm very proud to say that the effort has paid off as one of my films "It Was You Charlie" which has debuted at several film festivals, is having its Canadian Theatrical Release this Friday Aug. 8, 7:00pm  at the TIFF Bell Lightbox Theatre.

So if you've ever wondered what kind of film an Arctic venturing Architect and project manager can produce entirely by accident, I welcome you to come out and enjoy the show.

Here are the film and premier details:
