Large format scanners (also known as wide format scanners) are nowadays extensively used in various professional fields for their unique functionality. This specific kind of scanner is designed in order to get rid of the problem of scanning large and thick paper because the traditional flatbed scanners are not capable of scanning them properly.
As far as the construction business is concerned, architecture and civil engineering are considered its two main pillars and consequently, precise designing is an inextricable part of this business. Both these subjects deal with a significant number of CAD (Computer Aided Design) drawings, blueprints, and various other drawings related to construction. Because of the accuracy and intricacy demanded by these architectural designs, they are always made on large papers which cannot be scanned by regular paper scanners. Other problems involved are: inadequate storage space for these documents, cost of ink, paper, and designing equipment, and protecting the physical copies of these designs for years from pests, weather factors, etc. (Information credit: ByColortrac)
Wide format scanners are sometimes called all-in-one scanners because they are capable of eliminating all of these problems mentioned above quite efficiently. They offer few other benefits besides getting rid of these issues. Here, the advantageous features of these scanning devices are discussed –
1. Portability and convenience: In any construction business, employees have to move around the construction site several times per day. If the scanning device is cumbersome to move around, it could cause some ergonomic problems for them. But large format scanners are quite portable and can be moved around the site constantly for scanning papers. Some of these scanners come inside cases with wheels which make them even more user-friendly and portable.
2. Speed: The Smart LF Scan technology used in these scanners is capable of scanning large paper within a few seconds. Because of this incredible speed, the productivity of a business increases significantly. Also, the increase in speed reduces the consumption of electricity because you would need to use them for fewer hours than regular flatbed scanners.
3. Energy efficiency and cost effectiveness: As large format scanners can scan faster than regular scanners, the consumption of electricity is significantly low. Low energy consumption reduces the operational cost of these devices. Also, the maintenance cost of these scanners is low because they are highly durable in nature. Their initial cost is very reasonable as well.
4. Resolution and accuracy: The interpolated optical resolution of large format scanners can reach up to 1200 dpi (dots per unit). On an average, this number moves around 600 to 1200 dpi. Regular scanners can provide a resolution range of 400 dpi at most. Usually, the wide format scanners used in construction, incorporate CCD (Charge Coupled Device) technology. CCD consists of five elements namely light source, mirrors, CCD sensors, focusing lenses, and analog to digital converters. Mirrors help to reflect the light of the LED light source to capture the image with appropriate resolution. This technology also provides the accuracy necessary for such intricate designs.
5. Editing and preserving purpose: In construction, sometimes architects need to change the design to some extent if the situation demands. In previous systems, they had to make a fresh copy on a separate sheet of paper with revised measurements. The process was time consuming and tedious. Wide format paper scanners can successfully digitize these drawings, and with the right editing software, you would be able to make as many changes as you want to your design.
All these beneficial features of this scanning device improve the entire infrastructure of the construction industry and ultimately increase productivity.

Ontario, Oregon, is a small town with fewer than 12,000 people. Yet it draws streams of visitors from neighboring Idaho and beyond. The reason is no secret. In Ontario, Oregon, dispensaries have become a curious border attraction with an economic engine and a cultural flashpoint. But what exactly should an out-of-state buyer expect? Far less glamour than a Netflix documentary might suggest, and far more rules than the average…
